I believe the John Deere squirrel proof feeder is in it’s first year of offering on the market. I personally have one on order (since we have two John Deere fans in our house – who’d have figured?).
Once the squirrels start eyeing our bird feeders, I’ll post my observations here.

I have quite a few bird feeders, but not the squirrel proof kind. I put mine on the tall shepherd hook and they work just fine..I also have noticed that we don’t have that many squirrels around like we use to, I am wondering where are they? Most likely down the street where this lady gives them everything, including corn on the cob! Which they have fun with that…

I personally like squirrels so I have 3 corn cob feeders as well as several other feeders. I love to watch their acrobatics while feeding off the feeders.

My neighbor has the John Deere bird feeder. We have lots of squirrels and it didn’t take them long to be able to get to the food. He had to take a long and wider piece of tin and duct-tape it over the tray and also bend it downward. It made it harder for some of the birds to get to. So I would not claim that it is squirrel proof.
I personailly put shortening on my poles and hangers and the squirrels slide and can’t climb them, it’s fun to watch too. The shortening won’t hurt them either and stays on even after a rain.
