Garden Bird

There is a strong belief among many people, that indigenous Australians are beautiful but have no perfume. A walk through the bush will dispel that rumor easily.

The perfume of flowers and scented crushed leaves can be almost overwhelming at times. But many indigenous have a more subtle fragrance, you must be near them at the right time to appreciate the flavors and fragrances.

The scent of native plants are often produced at different times of day or night. Fragrant native flowers include several grevilleas (some like Biternata G. buxifolia and GG have a strong honey as other scents such as G. buxifolia have a light scented perfume), Boronia (eg B. floribunda, B. and B. serrulata megastigma) Sowerbaeas (Vanilla Lilies) Xanthoreas (Grass Trees), Banksia, Eleaocarpus reticulatus (Blueberry Ash) who has a strong odor near the anise Hakeas, Pittosporum undulatum (Native Daphne) — The scent of this species in May became unbearable in the evening – Leptospermum species (eg L. flavescens), Homoranthus case (which has a scent of cookies oven) and Hymenosporum flavum (Native Frangipani).

Many of the white flowering eucalyptus, Melaleuca and Callistemon species have a strong scent of honey.

There a number of particularly fragrant orchid species Dendrobium: they tend to be highest from early morning to afternoon. Although some species such as Cymbidium suave C. have a good fragrance during the middle of the day). Sarcochilus species have what is best described as a flavoring spicy.

The aroma released by the plant foliage where it did not reveal until he disturbed, crushed or brushed against. These include Backhousia citriodora (Lemon Myrtle), which is probably the best of all fragrances Indigenous and lemon is also used as a cooking ingredient, while the leaves of B. anisata is strongly scented like anise, Eremophila, species Eriostemon, Prosantheras,

Leptospermum Peterson (Lemon-scented Tea-tree – as well as a cover crop), Darwinia citriodora (a slight odor lemon) and some Melaleuca (paperbark) also scents.

Of course, you can not forget the family with eucalyptus scent of eucalyptus famous, is an evocation of our bush. But now, many other countries develop large plantations of them for wood, wood heating programs and revegetation on every continent bar Antarctica. One species, the E. citriodora has a strong lemon-come, perfume while eucalypt Agonis flexuosa has a combination of eucalyptus and peppermint scent.

Calomeria elegans has been used as a substitute to lavender. Some species of Boronia also strongly scented foliage.

And do not forget plants like grass, the trees and Lomandra, Grass, both of which give a lovely smell of honey blossom time.

So why not think about using some fragrant native plants in your garden. Not only will you get support from your local environment. But you can also get other benefits such as attracting birds, other wildlife and butterflies in your garden.

Hangout Birdhouse

The relationship of a flower with birds is one of mutual benefit. The gardener provides for some of the birds basic needs, and help birds to reduce insect populations, while addressing us an inexhaustible source of entertainment. Birds take their role as predators of insects seriously. A single bird will eat 500 to 1000 insects in an afternoon.

Birds have four primary needs: food, water, shelter and a place to raise a family. As you see, these needs are fully met.

Food

Two types of seeds, white millet seeds black oil sunflower seeds attract the most common fish-eating birds. These two seeds should be a pillar in your feeders. To broaden the diversity birds visiting your feeders, add seeds of specific species such as red proso millet, black and gray striped sunflower seeds, Niger thistle fields (for goldfinches, beluga and purple finches), sorghum and groundnut seeds (for chickadees and tufted titmice white).

Tallow Beef helps birds maintain their body heat in cold weather. Bags of plastic mesh Hang suet or pinecones dipped in melted tallow tree branches. The peaks are particularly satisfied with this treatment.

Deadheading or removing spent flowers, is the best way to keep plants in bloom. Annual individual receives a periodic Deadheading. The flowers are just there to produce seeds. Once the plant sets seed, it has no reason produce flowers.

Many perennials will also bloom if deadheaded. The exceptions are perennials that bloom on a single stem flower tall, like astilbe and iris and perennials that need a chilling period to set their flower buds.

Water

An ideal water source for birds should be about three inches deep and three feet of soil. Stroke and the sound will capture the attention of a bird. You can create moving water into a leaky container hanging from a branch a fountain. Fountains and waterfalls are favorite meeting places for songbirds, and Messrs. place in factories near your birdbath will attract many feathered visitors.

Shelter

Birds need shelter to protect them against the elements and allow them to hide from predators. Dense, Twiggy shrubs and conifers are the refuge of choice for most birds.

Nesting
Sites

Different species of birds have different nesting requirements, and you can find ready-made bird houses or build yourself the plans for almost all species of birds. Choose birdhouses that are weather resistant and have a sloped roof for rain. It should have holes in the sides and bottom for aeration and drainage. A roof hinged or removable is a bonus for you because it makes cleaning easier. The birdhouse should be cleaned after each nesting season.

When you hang your birdhouse, the position of the entrance hole away prevailing winds.
