Have a question, need advice! We have two wooden birdhouses hanging on our front porch, both are occupied. Tomorrow the exterminator is coming because we are also having a problem with carpenter ants and a wasps nest on the porch. How do I protect the birds? Should I just take the birdhouses off the porch and then hang them back up after the exterminator leaves? Will this confuse the birds? We enjoy having them by the house, I don't want them to be hurt by the extermination.

Are nesting boxes the same thing as bird houses? I'm very new at bird watching and would like to put a bird house in a nearby tree. My husband thinks the squirrels will get to it. We live in a townhouse association and would have to get permission to use a free-standing pole. We live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We have a bird feeder (seed) hanging from our balcony and have attracted lots of finches - goldfinches, house finches, and black capped chickadees.
