Identify, feed, help and attract wild birds to your yard and garden.

Seed Feeder

Feeders benefit from regular maintenance, although the maintenance tasks are easily accomplished. The most obvious of these tasks is filling feed. When you fill the feeders as necessary, provide a reliable source of food for birds. If you refills on a hit-and-miss basis, the birds will probably not die of hunger. But they will look elsewhere for food. You need to start over again to attract birds to your feeding area or yard. The two other common tasks revolve around cleaning. You must keep the area around the feeders, and you should clean the feeder every few months or so. Keep the area neat and clean reduces the risk of spreading disease among birds that visit your bird feeders.

Maintain the supply of food on hand and filling the feeders when they are down will be your task more frequent maintenance. But your attention to this task will ensure that you enjoy regular visits from birds. You may choose among different types of feed, as the birds you want to attract. Black-oil sunflower seeds appeal without doubt the greatest variety of birds. Therefore, the sunflower is a choice of food People. With sunflower seeds, you can attract chickadees, jays, sparrows, robins, finches, cardinals, and even pics. Mixed seed is also a popular choice. Millet, corn, tallow, and fruit will attract additional species garden.

You will need to clean the area around your feeders regularly. To accomplish this task, moving the seed hulls. If you allow them to stay, they will begin to decompose. At this stage, they can kill your grass, and they can also spread the disease among birds. You can prevent any of these conditions with a few minutes raking every once in awhile.

Hummingbird feeders should be cleaned once a week, but you can clean the other bird feeders, less frequently seasonally, or once every few months. Clean your bird feeders which prevents them from spreading disease. When you prepare cleaning, start with a bowl of hot water and soap. Mix one part bleach to nine parts water in a separate container. When you shoot feeders, dump any remaining seeds. Wash feeders in hot soapy water and soak them in solution of bleach. Rinse well afterwards. Sure they are completely dry before filling. Rehang feeders.

Bird feeders come in all sorts of decorative colors and designs. As you shop for departure, determine whether you can complete these three tasks. You must fill feeders as needed, clean around the feeders regularly clean and sterilize the feeders themselves after a few months. If you can not attend to these tasks, you should be made an excellent departure. Pick your favorite bird feeders and intrigue where you place and RSS feeds allow you to store them. If you are new to bird watching, take a field guide and see how many birds you can identify.

Yankee Flipper

If you have problems with squirrels, a bird feeder squirrel proof may be your best option. There are several species ground squirrels and tree squirrels in North America that can create problems for bird lovers. Squirrel Fox and eastern and western gray squirrels are tree squirrels that are most often concerned with causing problems for owners and bird watchers.

Squirrel-proof bird feeders come in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles. They range from simple chicane at the top feeders, weight activated feeders like the Super Homestead Stop-A-Squirrel. For the birder backyard, it serious is the Droll Yankees' Yankee Flipper, which uses a battery-operated device, activated by the weight of the squirrel, to (safe) propel the squirrel off the feeder.

A bird watchers have major problems with squirrels is that the squirrels take over the feeders, and scare the birds. But this is not the only problem. Depending on the season and what is available locally, feeding squirrels is mainly consisting of nuts, fruits, buds of plants, seeds and flowers. However, squirrels are not vegetarians. They also eat bird eggs and nestlings that they will pull right out of birdhouses. They may fall on the birds at feeders unsuspecting too.

There are two strategies clear to resolve the problem of keeping squirrels away from your feeders and birdhouses. You can prevent the (cute) pesky rodents access to your treasures, or you can give them a better place for dinner and alternates.

Let's deal with prevention first strategy. There are simple ways to keep your feeders and nest boxes to protect from squirrel damage. And let me add here that is imperative to keep your nest boxes safe from possible predators. You can create your own predator guard my plans or you can buy squirrel baffles, that come in a variety of styles, sizes, shapes and colors.

What you want to do is to remove squirrels from your feeders and nesting birds from the beginning. Squirrels are very persistent and once they find an easy source of food, they will try to overcome any obstacle you put in their way in May.

The squirrels are extremely agile and can leap eight feet or more and climb almost anything. For this alone Because if you have problems with squirrels in your garden, keep your feeders and nest boxes at least eight feet from any tree limbs or structures artificial and install baffles on the supporting posts.

If you hang your bird feeders in the trees, you want to keep Remote trunk main and to provide a deflector dome or simply use a bird feeder squirrel proof that is designed with a domed roof type.

Another popular style feeders squirrel proof bird feeder the cage. The pipe cage consist of a feeder house which contains the seed, surrounded by a metal cage that keeps squirrels from going to seed. They simply put the food out of reach of hungry squirrels.

Even the most persistent squirrels must be thwarted by any of these feeders squirrel proof bird feeder baffle or combinations. So let's consider the second strategy to give the squirrels a better alternative than your bird feeders or birdhouses for their banquets.

This strategy involves the establishment of a squirrel feeder that somewhere away from your bird feeders with food that squirrels really. There are several squirrel feeders to not only to enjoy the squirrels nuts, sunflower seeds and fruit they like most, there are some that allow you to watch their antics as they feed one of their favorite foods, corn on the cob.

So if you like squirrels or hate 'em, these are some of solutions to the dilemma "squirrel" who face many ornithologists. You may even have some new ideas on how you can live with the squirrels and keep your feeders and nest boxes off limits to them, cute critters bristle.
