In 1886, Vancouvers first City Council made a momentous decision by asking the federal government of Canada to lease 1,000 acres of largely connected to Peninsula Park and Recreation purposes. After the creation of the young green Citys first official act, the Council then decided create an autonomous and distinct from the elected committee to govern all parks and recreational developments. And so the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is born, one of the only elected bodies of its kind in Canada. The system now includes more than 200 parks, but his heart remains in the cool, lush, green oasis of Stanley Park named after Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada in 1888 when the park was officially opened.
Annual visits to this America, North America's third largest urban park, is estimated at 8 million people. Originally home to Musqueam The Squamish First Nations people. Stanley Park as you see today is not a system designer, but more an evolution of a pioneer Citys hopes and dreams: a place for its citizens to recreate themselves through sports or active leisure liabilities.

Stanley Park is home to a variety of ecosystems, the bank that surrounds the park rainforest of the west coast which dominates and freshwater environments dot. Fir Douglas, Western Hemlock and Western Red Cedar are the pillars of the first with a myriad of native plants growing in the understory. This park city full of wild animals like raccoons, squirrels and coyotes and is located on the Pacific Flyway, where it provides shelter for more 200 species of migratory waterfowl and, if resident, seabirds and songbirds.
There is much to see and do in the park. You can easily spend the day here with no problem at all. During the summer there is a free shuttle bus that takes you around the park. This a mini tour of the park with the driver by giving you some information on different areas.
You can bike, walk, drive, rollerblading, and travel through the park any other way you want. The fact that the park is minutes from downtown makes it a more practical vehicle of any where, in Vancouver.
The park was one of the nicest places we visited Vancouver. Near the park there are also new commercial and residential district. It makes a nice place to stroll and enjoy the shore. There is also a small marina, where you can rent a boat or go on a cruise. The views are superb and it would be a wonderful place to live.
We intend to settle Vancouver after a few years and buy one of these condos with ocean view, Vancouver and Stanley Park. You can not beat the weather here in summer and the beauty is something you should see for yourself.
If you're in Vancouver, take a walk in Stanley Park. It is a great place to spend a few hours or days. There are many things to do. It is an ideal place for a picnic or a game of football.
