Hummingbird Nectar

Attracting wild birds

No need to buy powder Hummingbird Nectar mix from the store for this rewarding hobby. Instead, go with this simple hummingbird nectar recipe. You need only water and sugar white – super simple and easy to do.

Use the proportion following:

1 part regular white sugar to 4 parts water.

Example: 1 cup sugar, 4 cups water

1. Boil water.

2. Add sugar and stir until dissolved.

3. Cool.

4. Refrigerate in a designated pitcher hummingbird feeder.

Using a microwave works too. Put the water in the microwave Safe Containers and bring to boil. Carefully remove and add sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. I filled my feeders clean and keep refrigerated and leave the rest to cool slightly before storing in the refrigerator.

Nothing extra: It is not necessary to add something extra to the mixture, ie coloring, honey, etc. It is not necessary and could be harmful. Honey close quickly become toxic to birds.

Storage Hummingbird nectar: I store all varieties of my wild bird (Orioles, Hummingbirds, Butterflies, etc.) "juice" up to two weeks in the refrigerator, but usually need to do more often than that.

Tip: Use a Rubbermaid container or a clean milk carton, clearly marked, to store my hummingbird juice in the refrigerator. Another idea I recently read is to freeze the extra. May I try this by putting in a freezer bag and freezing flat. Once it is frozen, it is breaks easily placed in the charger.

Discard: If the juice in the feeder (s) becomes cloudy or muddy, empty, clean and refill.

Cleaning: Make sure bird feeders are cleaned every few days to a week to prevent icki. Cleaning with a solution of vinegar and water is hot.

Location and Feeders: More than one feeder, placed strategically around the court, will encourage more hummingbirds to visit both. They are territorial birds, feeding place so far from the line Focus on the other.

Note: However, I had more than one to a charger to time with no ill will directed to another. Experiment a little.

Enjoy your visitors!
