Bird Gifts for Children

It's fun to give children their own bird field guides as birthday gifts or bird house kits (why not start them young in the hobby?). My 5 year old friend Michael loved pounding together and hanging out his first feeder with his mother. For 3 years now that feeder is filled every day, rain or shine and observed from the kitchen picture window. Some days I think he knows more than I do about birds. He's forever showing me the birds he's seen at his feeder in his field guide.

House Warming Fun - Bird House Party

Another fun gift idea: When my mother-in-law moved to her first real farmhouse - with acres of property and all the mosquitoes and flies known to our neck of the woods - her friends put on a 'bird house warming' as a celebration of the new home.

Every guest brought a unique bird house as a gift. She loved it and today there are plenty of birds on her property gobbling up all the farm bugs. It's a beautiful place to visit now to watch hatchlings learning to fly and see the bird houses bustling with activity. Bird houses truly are the gift that keeps on giving!
